Hi, I’m Miranda.

I am a therapist who is passionate about supporting people of all backgrounds to heal from trauma, alcohol and other drugs dependency, adverse family experiences, damaged self esteem, and lost connection to self.

I’m a PACFA registered counsellor who has worked in the alcohol and other drugs sector since 2018. I have worked at community centres and NGOs across NSW providing harm minimisation treatment in outpatient, outreach and residential settings.

In this sector I have developed a passion for working with the following issues:

  • the relationship between addiction, trauma and mental health

  • substance use recovery and relapse prevention

  • trauma recovery, management and psychoeducation

  • healing from Domestic Violence relationships

  • the relationship between the autonomic nervous system and stress

  • impact of adverse childhood attachments and experiences

As well as individual counselling, I have experience as a Group therapist, facilitating day programs and workshops on topics including: Mindfulness, body image and self-esteem, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Relapse prevention, and Tree of Life groups.

I have been facilitating Self Management and Recovery Training (SMART) meetings for several years.

Areas of Experience

As a therapist I support people with the following concerns:

  • low self-esteem

  • identity confusion (professional, sexuality, gender, cultural)

  • trauma recovery

  • substance misuse and dependency

  • adverse childhood experiences and attachments

  • power and control relationships

  • anxiety

  • depression

  • family issues

  • relationships issues

  • addressing shame

If you have a concern not on this list, feel free to contact me to discuss whether my approach might be the right fit.

My approach

I am an integrative counsellor who values ongoing professional and personal development, and is always incorporating new learnings into her practice. At the moment I have an emphasis on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems, Narrative therapy, Sensorimotor therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Family of Origin work.

As a therapist I regard the connection formed in therapy between counsellor and client as an opportunity for the individual to experience the trust, safety and healing that may elude them in other areas of their lives.

Together we can create new templates for healthy relationships to empower you in your relationships outside of our sessions.

As a therapist I also seek to see client as a whole individual, rather than a collection of labels and diagnoses. I hope to offer my clients the chance to be seen and heard for who they really are, rather than who they’ve been told to be.

I offer therapy that is:

  • trauma informed

  • dual-diagnosis

  • harm minimisation informed

  • attachment theory informed

  • culturally competent and aware

  • committed to safety for all LGTBQI+ individuals

  • non-pathologising

  • client directed

  • flexible and adaptable

  • strenghts-based

  • client-centred

Who am I?

Whilst I am always changing and growing as a person, I do have some qualities and passions that remain constant. I love the outdoors and find nature, and the ocean in particular, to be very healing. I love dogs and hope to one day run my own old dogs home. I love creativity and whether it’s botanical illustration, creating terrariums, paint by numbers or creative writing, I love outlets for my personality and mind. I enjoy café hopping with friends and cozy, rainy days at home. I am an avid consumer of audiobooks and have a way of getting very obsessed with at least one Netflix show a year and talking about it forever.

I myself have been receiving therapy since I was a teen, and it is thanks to having experiences of my own of safety, compassion, and acceptance that I am now in a position to witness others healing and progress.
